Learning to recognize God's goodness, remember His faithfulness, and live with gratitude every day.
Scripture: Psalm 103:1–5
"Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits."
How often do we take time to look back and remember all that God has done for us? Life moves quickly, and it is easy to become so focused on today's responsibilities, tomorrow's concerns, and the things we still hope to receive that we forget to recognize the blessings already surrounding us.
In Psalm 103, David speaks directly to his own soul, reminding himself not to forget the goodness of God. He remembers God's forgiveness, healing, love, compassion, and provision. David understood something important: gratitude grows when we intentionally remember.
We all have stories of God's faithfulness. There have been prayers He has answered, doors He has opened, burdens He has helped us carry, and moments when His strength sustained us through circumstances we never thought we could face. Some of His blessings have been obvious, while others may only become clear when we look back.
Sometimes we are so quick to pray for what we need next that we forget to thank Him for what He has already provided. We can become so focused on the blessings we are waiting for that we overlook the blessings we are currently experiencing.
Remembering God's goodness doesn't mean life has always been easy. In fact, some of our greatest reminders of His faithfulness come from the most difficult seasons of our lives. When we look back and recognize how God carried us through those moments, our confidence in Him grows.
As we continue through November, let's take time to reflect on the ways God has worked in our lives. Let gratitude become more than a passing thought. Let it become a regular part of our conversations with Him. The more we remember His faithfulness, the more reasons we discover to give Him thanks.
Personal Challenge:
Set aside some time this week to write down five ways God has been faithful to you. Think about answered prayers, difficult seasons He brought you through, people He placed in your life, and blessings you may have overlooked. Spend time thanking Him for each one. If possible, share one of those reminders of God's faithfulness with someone else.
